A patient advisory group consisting of equal numbers of consumers and clinicians was established to oversee the introduction of a Family Activated Escalation of Care project.
Often, when clinicians were unable to attend meetings due to their clinical load, the consumers would spend the time reviewing literature. This project’s success was evidenced by the resulting programs rollout across the hospital.
The environment we work in every day is much easier for us to understand. For consumers of health services this environment is alien and, at times, fear provoking.
By working together, we can gain a better understanding of the others perspective leading to improved systems of care. Reaching this understanding requires respectful listening and partnership with patients rights at the centre of the discussion.
