Partnering with patients (PwP) is Bernadette Brady who has worked in the Australian health industry for 40 years. During that time, Bernadette has developed a passion for working with patients, carers and staff to improve health provision by building an understanding of the patient experience.
PwP has the knowledge, experience and expertise to help your facility to meet the National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards, Standard 2 Partnering with Consumers; by working with executive teams, staff and consumers.
 
PwP can:

  • Provide mentoring for staff who want to work more closely with consumers
  • Provide advice on how facilities can meet the National Safety & Quality Health Service Standard 2
  • Work with organisations to incorporate consumers into their governance structures
  • Work with staff to help them identify improved work systems.

Patient & Family Centred Care

PwP specialises in the practice of Patient and family centred care. Patient and family centred care recognises the expertise of people in their own lives. It requires people to be respectful of others. It is a way of living.
Research shows that facilities that have a person centered culture will also have:
 

  • Reduced length of stay
  • Reduced medication errors
  • Reduced falls
  • Increased satisfaction

Patient and family centred care requires health staff, patients and families to work together to achieve better outcomes.

People don't want to be patients. There are many steps to partnering with patients and carers.
Raise Standards
 
Standards 2.4.1, 2.4.2, 2.6.1 and 2.7.1 are core. How will your organization achieve these standards?

 

Involve your Consumers
 
The unique voice of consumers of health care provides insight not otherwise available. Conversations between consumers and providers will allow mutual learning and understanding.
Seek Insight
 
Ask yourself does your organisation do things to, for or with patients? Does it recognise the expertise patients, carers and staff hold in their daily lives and activities? How does the organization hear the thoughts of these people?
